Usable Birdhouses

All the birdhouses above have a roof that opens for cleaning (two screws), drain holes in the bottom, and a 1 1/8" entry hole. I have six of them up and the wrens love them. I have also had tree swallows and blue birds use them. All but one of them have a 1 1/2" base so you can attach a floor flange to the bottom and then mount the house to a 1" metal black pipe pole. Stores with plumbing supplies have the flanges. I found the cheapest ones at Menards.

The houses are made of 3/4" cedar (which will turn a nice shade of gray after a season outdoors) or weathered wood, the hinges on the roof are brass. Both you and the birds will enjoy these houses.
